What are we doing?

Over the course of the summer of 2010, volunteer divers organized and directed by team leader Jason Bennis will:

  • Collect coral fragments from damaged areas
  • Transport coral fragments to Coral Nursery for rehabilitation
  • Prepare coral to eventually be transplanted back to park’s larger coral reef ecosystem

The program is led by Jason Bennis, the Sr. Marine Program Manager for the Sun Coast Regional Office in Hollywood, Florida.

The Coral Nursery

The Coral Nursery

Biscayne National Parks' coral nursery is an innovative system that shelters fragile coral until it is strong enough to be transplanted. This helps the reef recover more quickly and ensures more coral is available for later transplants.
